Penina Barbera

Penina Barbera
The sparkling wine Penina Barbera is something new on our wine market because it is made out of the red grape variety Barbera.
We have decided for this variety because it is most suitable for the making of sparkling wine since it has higher acid content and a lively, elegant character. It is interesting that the sparkler Penina Barbera is not suitable just as an aperitif but goes well also with food.


Vintage: 2004

Variety: 100% Barbera

Grape growing and winemaking details:
  • Vineyard: Terraced vineyards.
  • Harvest: First week of October.
  • Fermentation: At the same time as maceration; secondary fermentation by the Charmat method.
  • Maturation: After the secondary fermentation four months sur lie.

Wine description:
  • Colour: Red with shades of ruby.
  • Nose: Fruity fragrance reminiscent of forest fruits.
  • Palate: A touch of fruit tones rounded off by pleasant acidity.
  • Harmony: Slightly higher acidity combines well with the wine's fruity character.
  • Ageing potential: Up to 5 years.

Wine parameters:
  • Alcohol: 12,5 %vol.
  • Sugar content: 4,4 g/l of residual sugar.
  • Total acidity: 7,0 g/l.
  • Serving temperature: 6 – 8 ºC.
  • Marriage of food and wine: Aperitifs; also goes well with all kinds of food.
