There is a world where alpine freshness and mediterranean mildness meet. A world where the sun and Burja keep dancing their eternal dance. Sometimes it is playful, sometimes fierce. The sun caresses the terraced slopes, the Burja curls the vines. And in this world the vineyards present their most beautiful picture. It is in this world that the best wines are born. Red and white. And sometimes also rosé.
The Vipava Valley wine-growing district stretches over 2600 hectares of land and is a part of 7000 hectares of the Slovene Primorska wine-growing region. Geographically it is determined by the Vipava Valley which borders on the plateaus Nanos, Trnovo and Kras. On the west, the Vipava valley is open towards the Friuli lowlands from where it gets the favourable influence of the Mediterranean. The valley itself is one of the most windy regions of Slovenia (from Nanos plateau a strong Burja often blows and reaches over 100 km/h).
The Vipava valley is a low country reaching between 45 to 300 meters above sea level and is actually a dried up bay of the sea. Marine sediments of flysch, layers of which alternate with sandstone, are today the best possible ground for growing vines. The climate is sub-Mediterranean with mild winters and hot dry summers. The valley has many favourable microclimates that rend the wines their quality and variety.
